This was announced way back last month, but I’m just now getting dug out from the end of year avalanche.
gvSIG was mentioned in the comments on a post on uDIG I wrote back in May of last year. I haven’t found the time to check it out, but wanted to pass along the announcement. Here’s the press release:
gvSIG, the Open Source (GNU/GPL license) Geographic Information System developed by the Generalitat Valenciana reaches its version 1.0. With this release, gvSIG presents itself as an integrated GIS + SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) client, able to combine data from different local and remote sources (web services) and at the same time include advanced editing, geoprocessing, scripting language support and georeferencing among other features. All the details about this release, as well as the source code and the binary files, can be found in the project web site www.gvsig.gva.es.
It goes on to say that gvSIG is funded by the EU and that there are developer and user email lists that you can participate in.
It’s great to see another choice in Open Source GIS software.
