via The Memory Leak:
Way back in 2005 (why does that seem so long ago?), I wrote a mash-up using the Google Maps API v1 to highlight contamination issues with the Equus Beds Aquifer in central Kansas. Well the API is at v2, and I have neglected my application, so the mapping component doesn’t work anymore. (It’s on my todo list, really it is).
The application takes data from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, a smattering of Tiger line data, and some other source data formatted in XML files stored on this site. While I’m not a XML hater, I do find it inconvenient to work with at times.
I’ve written before about how I like Google Spreadsheets, so the post mentioned above really got my attention.
I uploaded my XML file to Google Spreadsheets (I used xmlto on my Mac since Excel 2004 for the Mac doesn’t really do xml), and went through Pam Fox’s Spreadsheets->Map Wizard to create the initial page. Here’s a shot of the result:
Here’s the spreadsheet in case you’d like to take a look. And if you are interested in more about Pam’s Wizard, here’s her post about it.
