I was just planning our route for a trip to the inlaws on Google Maps, and I saw that there’s a nice new feature:

This is one of the best additions to Google Maps of late. I do not always take major highways to get where I’m going - in Kansas we have some very nice State highways that can trim a lot of time off a trip. So now I can adjust my route without using the old “multi-waypoint” trick. Makes routing much simpler and driving directions much clearer.
A quick example: To go to Emporia Google Maps (with the Avoid Highways Option on), gives me the following route between Marion and Elmdale:

But K-150 is faster, and is a safer road than the one that Google suggests. Before, I had to just mentally know that Google Maps was several miles off in its estimate and would ignore the driving directions (Ok, I know this route by heart, but you get the idea). Now I can adjust the route on the map, to get this:

Now when I give a map to my navigator (i.e. my lovely wife Michelle), it will actually show the route I’m going to take.
