Well, my trusty G4 iBook is trusty no more. Seems that it has developed one of the logic board problems that are cropping up. Kind of disappointing, but it has been through a lot. I tried the various fixes suggested on many Apple fan sites, but still no go.
The worst part is that the local Apple dealer wants a $200 “bench fee” for which they will box it up and send it to Apple to get the logic board replaced. Their quote on Apple replacing the board is around $400. I can get a refurbished Mini for $499, so I’m thinking it’s time just to yank the drive out of the iBook, dump it to an external drive, and give the iBook a proper send off to the great recycler in the sky.
