Astronomy

I have been interested in astronomy since an early age, when in Cub Scouts we punched constellations in the bottom of cans so you could see them when you held the can up to the light. Later I took an astronomy course in college where I helped out with a public viewing of a solar eclipse in 1991. While on vacation a few years later I visited the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. While there I got to move their 24″ Clark refractor around. That was really cool.

I have a 127mm (5 inch) Mak-Cass telescope and a pair of 7×50 binoculars with a tripod mount. I like how portable they are and take both instruments to starparties. I’m playing around with some digital astrophotography, including webcam astrophotography, and hope to have some nice pics to show.

I am a member of the Salina Astronomy Club, which meets at Kansas Wesleyan University. I serve as outreach coordinator and webmaster.

I am also a graduate student at the University of North Dakota in the Space Studies program.
